The proposal is for a new 6,000 square foot dwelling in North Leeds, replacing an existing modest 2,000 square foot footprint with a carefully considered family residence. The design responds to the site’s established character and landscape setting, delivering a substantial yet measured home that balances traditional stone craftsmanship with refined contemporary architectural detailing.
The primary built form adopts a composed, traditional language, using high-quality natural stone, disciplined proportions, and a restrained material palette to create a sense of permanence and elegance. This approach ensures the dwelling sits comfortably within its context while presenting a timeless architectural character that draws from local vernacular precedents.
Contrasting with this, the scheme introduces a partially submerged, curved entertainment wing that is expressed as a distinctly contemporary intervention. Carefully embedded into the landscape, this element reduces the perceived mass of the development while creating a series of generous, light-filled interior spaces. Extensive glazing and a flowing plan arrangement maximise natural light, enhance spatial connectivity, and strengthen the relationship between the internal spaces and the surrounding gardens.
Together, the traditional and contemporary elements are unified through meticulous detailing and a clear architectural hierarchy. The resulting scheme delivers a highly crafted family home that is both confident and contextually sensitive, demonstrating how thoughtful design can accommodate modern living requirements while responding respectfully to landscape and setting.
