E3 Architecture has submitted a planning proposal for three bespoke dwellings on a semi-rural site located on the edge of the Green Belt. The scheme involves the demolition of an existing redundant dwelling and agricultural buildings, replacing them with a carefully considered development that responds sensitively to the site’s established form, landscape character, and historic footprints.
The proposals have been shaped to reinforce the Green Belt boundary while improving openness and visual amenity. Building footprints are informed by the existing arrangement of structures on site, ensuring the development sits comfortably within its context and avoids suburbanisation of the rural setting. Materials and massing are deliberately restrained, combining traditional forms with contemporary detailing.
The principal dwelling forms the focal point of the scheme and is accessed via a generous archway leading into a courtyard arrangement inspired by traditional stable blocks and coach houses. Substantial garages and ancillary buildings frame the courtyard, creating a sheltered “oasis” that contrasts with expansive views out across the surrounding Green Belt landscape.
A key feature within the grounds is a natural eco-pool, crossed by a bridge that leads to the main house and references the perpendicular arrangement of the two former barns. This is complemented by a glazed stair element that visually connects old and new. All dwellings are designed to be carbon neutral, incorporating a range of renewable technologies to deliver a sustainable, high-quality residential environment that is rooted in its rural context.
